Prof Miguel Mascarenhas

Professor Miguel Mascarenhas is a consultant gastroenterologist and internationally recognised expert in artificial intelligence (AI) in digestive healthcare. He is Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama, USA. He also leads the Precision Medicine Unit at Hospital São João. With a PhD focused on AI in gastroenterology, he has led the development of multiple AI technologies, advancing their translation from research into clinical practice. As Co-Chair of the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) AI Guidelines Taskforce, he helps shape international guidance on the integration of AI into digestive healthcare.
